Reality Junkie

I admit it. I watch too much reality TV. There, I said it. Over the course of the fall programming, I have watched almost every episode of two shows: Dancing With the Stars and (don't make fun of me, I can't believe I was even sucked into this awful show...) The Bachelor. Here are my two cents about the shows.

I am so happy that Helio won! I liked him from the very beginning. He was so much fun to watch with his cute smile and easy going personality. Plus, he is a great dancer! I can't believe that Marie lasted as long as she did. I was rooting for her to be off in week 3 or 4. I guess I can't complain about it too much though since I never voted.

Now, The Bachelor. The premise behind this show is bothersome. You take a guy (or gal, depending on which season it is) and give him 25 women to get to know and choose as his life-long marriage partner. Oh, and you only have 6 weeks to make that decision. Granted, some people know without a doubt when they meet that they were destined for each other, but not a lot of people can do this and make it stick. So you have all of these women vying for the same guy knowing that he is basically dating everyone at the same time. I don't think I would like my "boyfriend" kissing all the girls!

Anyway, I don't like the premise of the show, so why did I watch it? Oh yea, it wasn't CSI Miami (we don't have cable and 41 doesn't come in well). So I got sucked in and watched each week wondering who he would pick. The final episode came with the final choice and he didn't choose anyone! Congratulations to the bachelor for making a brave decision. He knew that he couldn't make a lifelong committment to either of the finalists, so he sent them both packing. I really admire that about him. I was watching the tail end of Ellen yesterday after work and she was calling this guy a jerk for not choosing her next guest. Well, I don't agree. Yea, the show wants the person to choose a mate and get engaged on the show, yadda yadda. Well, as we can see from past seasons, only 2 have even remotely stuck with one couple still engaged and one married with a baby. Why can't people respect him for his decision? At least he knew that he couldn't make it work and didn't complete the engagement just for the sake of it.
