Putting on my nakeup

I was relaxing after work yesterday while Katie was playing. She was gone from my sight just a little too long so I went to investigate. She met me in the doorway with my eyeliner in her hand and black streaks on her face.

"Katie, what are you doing?"
"Putting on my nakeup."

I couldn't help but laugh. I could have gotten upset, but she was just too darn cute about it and I realized that no one was hurt and even in my makeup was messed up I can always get more. I love moments like this where she is just doing what she sees me doing. They say that imitation is the best form of flattery, right?

This One's For the Girls

Actually, this one was for me and my date.

When I was little, my dad would take me on "date night." We usually would go to dinner then some kind of live show, most often the symphony. I would always wear my best dress and he made me feel like a princess.

Our date nights got to be fewer and less frequent as I went to college, got married, had a baby, etc. There were always other people wanting my time and attention. The last date we had was before I was pregnant with Katie. Sure, we would often have lunch together, especially when we worked close together in Lenexa. Then I changed jobs and Olathe to Lenexa got to be more of a challenge to coordinate. We are both working in Olathe now so since I've been at this job and he's been at his, we've had lunch together several times. Sometimes even with Katie! But, lunches just aren't the same as date night.

Tuesday Sarah called and asked me "do you like Martina McBride?" I immediately said "YES!" She had two tickets for the concert THURSDAY NIGHT!!! Did I want them? I told her yes, but let me work out some things before I completely commit.

So, after a few phone calls, I arranged for Steve to come watch Katie (Ben and Mom were both in class) and I had a date night scheduled!

My dad took me to The Majestic Steakhouse in downtown KC. I think that was probably the best steak I have ever eaten. It's up at the top for sure. As an added treat, there was live jazz while we were eating. So much fun!

We got to the concert about 15 minutes before it was scheduled to start so we found our seats and sat back to enjoy the show. Rodney Atkins came on and peformed for 30 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, Little Big Town came on and played for 30 minutes. Martina McBride came on at 9:00 singing one of my absolute favorites of her's.

I don't follow the names of songs or artists very well, but I can pick out ones that she sings because I like her music so much. Her songs have such a good meaning behind the lyrics. Plus, her voice is so incredibly beautiful.

Dad dropped me off about 11:15 which is two hours past my bedtime. I was so keyed up from the great concert that it was hard to fall asleep. I think I got about 5 hours of sleep that night, but it was all worth it.

I can't wait until we get another date night.

I am wearing my "Oscar Socks" today. These are the ones I was working on while watching the Oscars at Shane and Alli's home. They are super soft and warm. I am loving them very much.

I realized that I went for the whole month of March without posting. Oops.

Here's a brief run-down of what's been happening:

--World Conference and wishing that Katie would sit through church
--Children's Peace Pavillion at the Auditorium (a huge hit)
--dinner with the extended family
--lots of knitting
--lots of sliding and playing
--City sponsored Easter Egg Hunt
--seeing my old choir teacher from jr. high AND her remembering exactly who I was
--two-year-old life and drama
--preparing for Easter service at church

I think I'm just lazy and that's why I haven't posted. I know I'm lazy and that's why you never get any pictures. Maybe some day....
