If I'm not blogging, I'm watching the Olympics

Is anyone else as enamoured with the Olympics as I am? I have fallen asleep many nights in the past couple weeks with the games on. I wish we could see a wider variety of events. How about some kayak races? I know that a lot of the events have been completed, but I missed out on seeing a bunch of the less popular events. I still am in awe with the drummers at the opening ceremony.

Something new

I just ate something that was completely new for me and I loved it! I had the very first tomato even grown by my hands! It is very satisfying to eat something that I planted and nurtured myself. Next year I am already planning more things for my little garden, but must decide where to place it. Such a dilemma!

The end of the suspense

So, if you read my post from yesterday, you may have guessed that there is a new little one on the way. But, before you get too excited, it is not mine. However, just as I was excited to become a mother, I am very excited to share that I will be an aunt! Steve and Nicole are expecting their baby in January. Her due date is early in the month, so we could possibly have a Christmas or New Year's baby! Or, even better, the first baby born in the new year! It feels good to be able to talk about it, finally. I have been keeping this news since the very beginning of June. That is too long to hold something like that in!

In other news, I made a new dish last night for dinner. Well, it's not exactly new, but I added a new ingredient that I have never used before. I made a fruit salad and added some cut up pork chops with a dressing that I made up. The dressing was a mix of Miracle Whip, honey, cinnamon, white wine vinegar (just a little to thin it out), sesame seed oil, and mint from my little garden. The mint is the new addition. I really liked the way the flavors all mixed together. I used blueberries, raspberries, and grapes for the fruits. The oil gave it a little bit of a complex flavor that is somewhat unexpected. Just a little dab will do you! I think I may have overdone the cinnamon just a bit, but it was still yummy. Then I served it over spinach leaves and had corn on the cob on the side. All in all, it was a good meal!

I forgot to mention that I am less than five pounds from my weight loss goal! If I keep going right the next few weeks, I can get there by Labor Day.

On a roll

I have been finishing things lately. In just the last two days, I finished three projects! Well, all that is left on one is attaching the buttons, another just needs to finish drying, and the third I need to find some buttons.

I finally finished the tank I started back in April when I took a class from the designer. It was all knit since May or June (I can't remember when I actually finished the knitting) but has been lingering because I didn't feel that I knew what I was doing when it came to sewing up the seems. So, I finished it last night about 10:30 except for the buttons. Be expecting it's debut soon! The buttons should go on tonight.

The second project I finished was Ben's socks. I started on these bad boys back in October. They finally came off the needles yesterday during lunch. All that was left on it was one teeny little seem at the toe. It had been in that state for weeks. Do you sense a pattern here?

The third item is something I am proud of. I started and finished it in two weeks time. I could have finished it sooner, but didn't' work on it at all for an entire weekend! So, it still needs to find the perfect little buttons. The little item that I knit is going for a very special little person that I have not met yet.
